I bet when you first thought of starting a business you could never have imagined how many hats you would have to wear. Chores just seem to pop up in every direction and you may be left feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and emotionally drained. So with that thought in mind, here are 7 of my most helpful stress management techniques that I know will help you power through the stresses that arise.
Always remember why you started your business, and what it was that you wanted to achieve. The ultimate goal may be to have more time with your family, more flexible hours or more day to day freedom in your life. Not only has COVID added extra stress to you personally, but now you must also adapt as a business owner and adjust in ways to suit this new way of life.
Spend time with loved ones and friends so you may share the challenges you’re going through. Surround yourself with like-minded people and share your ideas as they will often see the subject from a fresh angle. We get so engrossed in our business that it can be hard to see things clearly. Get a fresh perspective on the situation and at the same time you will realise you are not alone.
Take small steps to reach your goals. Every day cross one thing off your list that leads you closer to your goals. It does not have to be big, just one thing that is leading you in the right direction.
Try to focus on creating beautiful work or products instead of fixating on the hours and profit associated with it. This is a great way to take the pressure off and remind yourself of why you started your business. Your success will be a reflection of your passion for what you do.
Clear your mind and re-energise by taking a walk, having a bath or reading a book to fill your cup. You can’t run on empty, so it’s important to make time for yourself.
Eat, sleep & move, the three most important things you can do for yourself that can get skipped due to a busy schedule and stress. Meal planning is a great way to make sure you have healthy snacks on hand. Aim for 7 hours sleep and be sure to exercise. Exercise helps release endorfins in your body that help you feel good and keep positive.
Mindfulness is a simple practice to bring you into the present moment in times of stress, pressure or anxitey. Deep breathing exercises, meditation or walking while acknowledging your surroundings can help clear your mind. I couldn’t recommend this enough and if you are new to this here is a list of free sites that can help. www.headspace.com www.insighttimer.com www.mindful.org www.calm.com www.smilingmind.com.au
Delegate more and hire people that can help your systems run smoothly. I love having clients approach me and admit to needing branding guidance, as I know this is the first step to something great for their business. I love to help and make this process easy and stress free so that my clients walk away with all the tools they need to achieve their business goals.
To be successful you don’t have to sacrifice your health, just be proud of yourself and how far you have come.
